Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must obtain Young Adult Peer Support Specialist Certification by year (1) one of hire – requirement
  • Must be willing to obtain CPR certification
  • Experience in navigating the mental health, education and other child serving systems as well as knowledge of accessing services in the adult system.
  • Must possess the ability and desire to learn new skills to include: cultural competency, procedures and rights, and addressing the needs of transition age youth
  • Must be a good listener, supportive and able to help others to achieve a feeling of wellbeing
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all clients, AHS employees and community you interact with as an AHS employee

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist clients in identifying goals and creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans
  • Advocate with and for clients both in the community and on the team
  • Provide direct peer-to-peer recovery support services to youth/young adults at clinical high risk for psychosis, assist them in accessing services and navigating both the child-serving and adult systems.
  • Positively influence the team culture by advocating for participants, promoting a youth-friendly approach and encouraging the use of recovery-oriented language
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through use of one-on-one and group sessions (e.g. peer support groups)
  • Facilitate youth leadership opportunities (e.g. advisory council)
  • Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help groups as well as link and refer them to locations of and joining existing groups
  • Assist individual with transition from child services to adult services as needed
  • Participate in treatment team meetings
  • Assist clients in building social skills in the community
  • Maintain documentation, records and reports as established by the agency, SAMHSA, CHRP, etc.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and be available 24/7 during their on-call week to CHRP clients who may be experiencing a mental health crisis
  • Other duties may be assigned by supervisor(s) to meet the needs of the consumer and AHS.

Shift Availability:

  • (1) Full-Time: M/Tu/Th: 8:00am–4:30pm; W: 8:00am-5:30pm; F 8:00am-3:30pm
