Corporate Tax Accountant (Non Income Tax)

Job Purpose

BioIVT is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our New York finance department to assist with the preparation and filing of non-income tax returns for several legal entities. We are a leading global provider of high-quality biological specimens and value-added services. We specialize in control and disease state samples including human and animal tissues, cell products, blood, and other biofluids. The Tax Accountant will report directly to the Senior Director, Global Finance.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Reconciliation of monthly sales per the general ledger to the Avalara tax reports
  • Maintain current tax rules in Avalara and enter new rules as required
  • Maintain/obtain sales tax exemption certificates ensuring all exempt customers are in compliance with exemption certificates on file. Obtain renewals where appropriate
  • Work with IT to set up new stat codes
  • Master demos of our software
  • Reconcile the sales tax liability account on each company.
  • Register in states where we have sales tax nexus and obtain sales tax certificate
  • Investigate customer inquiries regarding sales tax discrepancies
  • Work with outside sales tax specialists on new rulings, compliance and other tax related issues
  • Prepare property tax returns filings, maintaining full support for entries
  • Prepare gross receipts and other non-income tax return filings, maintaining full support for entries
  • Respond to notices from tax authorities
  • Make quarterly estimated income tax payments
  • Maintain log of all due dates of returns, date prepared, and date paid
  • Liaise with CSC for annual report/franchise tax filings
  • Liaise with external tax accountants
  • Apply for business licenses where necessary
  • Liaise on VAT filings for foreign entities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Taxation
  • Master’s degree in Taxation preferred
  • 3-5 years of prior related experience in a public or private setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Solid organizational skills especially ability to meet filing deadlines and focus on details
  • Ability to multitask while working independently or with others in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Nexus rules and regulations, and other non-income tax filings
  • Ability to research, interpret and apply sales and other non-income tax laws
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
