VP, Corporate Controller

BillionToOne's first product, UNITY™ is the first and only prenatal screen that directly assesses the baby's risk for common and severe inherited disorders such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and hemoglobinopathies from a single tube of blood from the pregnant mother.

We are seeking a VP, Corporate Controller to build and manage a best-in-class Accounting team as well as the operational infrastructure and control environment to support the company's hyper-growth and help prepare the company for a successful IPO. The ideal candidate is a committed team player with a solid work ethic, willing and able to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. The VP, Corporate Controller is a hybrid position that is onsite 2-3 days/week in our Menlo Park office, and reports directly to the CFO.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close and reporting process, including revenue recognition, payroll, accounts payable, expense accruals, equity related accounting and general ledger closing with support from outside consultants.
  • Build and manage a best-in-class Accounting team as well as the operational infrastructure and control environment to support the company's hyper-growth and help prepare the company for a successful IPO.
  • Help implement various systems and leverage technology to build scalable/sustainable processes to create efficiencies, streamline accounting operations and improve the employee experience.
  • Plan and own all accounting activities across the organization, to ensure compliance with GAAP, statutory guidelines, and internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements for fluctuations and anomalies and work closely with FP&A team to analyze variances against the budgets.
  • Build out a management reporting package with an eye towards timely reporting of results to Management as part of IPO readiness.
  • Lead the preparation for timely completion of audits (including planning for PCAOB audits for Public Company readiness) and handle all tax and statutory compliance.
  • Manage preparation of accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with those policies.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in how to run an accounting organization in a high growth environment where changes are constant.
  • Benchmark with industry peers on standard methodologies related to accounting, systems, policies, and processes to establish best in class internal processes.
  • Participate in key strategic initiatives and assist with ad hoc projects.
  • Establish and own effective internal controls and appropriate accounting procedures, including evaluation of processes and controls for compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including leading setting up processes and scaling the operations for high-growth companies.
  • Strong technical skills and experience with US GAAP compliant financial statements. Mix of Industry experience and Big 4 is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to build new capabilities, with a process-oriented mindset. You are expected to build a high performing team and look for continuous improvements.
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to analyze data from various systems and departments in a high growth environment.
  • Experience working with various cloud tools including implementing or using Netsuite ERP
  • Inventory and COGS experience in Biotech or Manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the diagnostics industry (reimbursement revenue recognition cycle) is highly preferred
  • Results driven with a high sense of urgency, taking ownership and ability to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities.
