Job Description:

The Industrial Automation Sales Engineer (IASE) will be responsible for traveling to branches in a specified territory to review customer’s applications and capture necessary data for desired projects. The IASE will become the customer’s main point of contact during the life of the specified project. The IASE will work directly with the Industrial Automation Application Engineer (IAAE) to finalize the design of the application. The IASE will also teach branches in their specified territory on what kind of projects to investigate, as well as work with manufacturers to identify alternative products if manufacturers are too costly or delivery issue arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Solve complex customer application issues
  • Provide support via phone, email, and in person
  • Effectively communicate product value proposition and product line strategies
  • Review and provide feedback on product literature developed by product line
  • Make recommendations for product enhancements and offerings
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of product support resources.
  • Participate on teams to enhance team performance and drive process improvement
  • Enthusiastic about learning new things and taking on new challenges
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to work autonomously with minimal direction
  • Develop and autonomously manage your sales activities within a specified territory
  • Maintain working relationships with existing clients, gain trust, and confidence to ensure exceptional service in applying our products while identifying potential new sales opportunities
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the technical products we represent and services we offer. You must be able to relay this knowledge in a way that is understandable to non-technical customers.
  • Attend training and sales meetings as required to stay current with all company products.
  • Represent our company with consumer research based upon customer’s needs and interests
  • Prepare and develop technical presentations to explain the products and services we provide to our customers.
  • Prepare quotations and proposals, follow up, negotiate terms, and other bid specifications to clients
  • Complete reports regarding itineraries, expenses, sales calls, leads, and other related matters
  • Collaborate with all appropriate departments equipment needs and system requirements to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Answer inquiries from clients concerning products, their uses, and the industry at large

Experience and Education:

  • Must have experience in designing automation projects and demonstrate familiarity with SMC products
  • Proficient with a CAD program of BDI’s choosing, as well as SAP
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills
  • Engineering degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with and designing electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.
  • Ability to travel
