Position Summary:

The Senior Strategic Product Manager will define, develop, and drive the commercial product strategy for the Genome Engineering Services and Cell & Gene Therapy business within Bio-Techne. The Gene Engineering Services products are powerful tools for creating advanced and novel cellular therapies and in this role, you will work closely with a product team solving important challenges that have a clinical impact. You will be part of a fast-growing segment in the life sciences focused on transforming cell and gene therapy manufacturing workflows though our reagents and tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting strategic direction of our Genome Engineering product portfolio and develop product market plans for the portfolio. Develop product marketing materials.
  • Identifying unmet or under-met customer needs and existing barriers to adoption and developing methods to address them
  • Create customer personas and defining the best methods to engage with them
  • Evaluating competitive offerings from the customer perspective
  • Collaborating with technical team to evaluate new technologies/ solutions for meeting customer needs (could be internally developed, or externally developed)
  • Develop strategy for addressing specific segments of the market
  • Develop financial models to support business proposals that drive revenue and profit growth for the portfolio
  • Articulate Bio-Techne’s competitive situation and developing ways to differentiate Bio-Techne’s product offering
  • Maintain competitor profiles, including pricing, positioning, advantages/disadvantages and marketing activities/strategy
  • Develop product messaging that differentiates new products from others in the market.
  • Create product content such as application notes, etc. to promote commercial viability of the product portfolio.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing tactics for sales and marketing communications teams to effectively position Cell and Gene therapy products.
  • Plan and execute new product launches in coordination with marketing communications, sales, operations and product development teams.
  • Define the portfolio product offering, developing price, promotion, and placement for all products within the portfolio to meet business targets
  • Represent voice of the customer on product development teams
  • Keep current with market needs through customer visits, conference attendance
  • Conduct product sales training to relevant sales and marketing teams, globally
  • Guide product innovation through new product development and go-to-market strategies by working cross-functionally with R&D, Segment Marketing, Sales and Technology Management.
  • Communicate the value of new products to the sales team and develop sales tools that facilitate the selling process and demand generation.
  • Evaluate sales trends and respond accordingly with updated marketing strategy.
  • Gain insight into customer use of current products, untapped opportunities, customer specifications and requirements through interviews, surveys, focus groups and sales data.
  • Research competitor offerings and react when appropriate.
  • Periodically present to customers and attend industry events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience within the life sciences field; OR a Master's degree with 5 years of experience; OR a Ph.D. with 2-3 years of related experience
  • Direct experience with Genome Engineering is strongly preferred
  • Experience with product management or product marketing within biotech industry or a related field
  • Strong business acumen and aptitude for customer requirements
  • Result-oriented, self-driven, and sense of urgency.

  • Strong data analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic, functional knowledge about the product(s) and their uses, competitor(s) and their product(s), and the marketplace, as well as the ability to gain in-depth knowledge
  • Aptitude in product/customer/sales/ financial analysis which will lead to defining successful strategies and launching outstanding products
  • Ability to work independently in order to make the necessary decisions to drive the business forward.
  • Ability to collaborate across business functions to ensure optimal product offering, promotion, and support
  • Ability to prioritize activities/ requests for the best business outcome
  • Ability to translate customer requests into addressable customer needs for a product/solution
  • Clear oral and written communication and presentation skills, allowing the ability to communicate professionally across all layers of the organization as well as customer’s and prospect’s organizations
  • Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including internationally
