About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Director, Transactions Counsel, this attorney will play an instrumental role in advising 10x Genomics' R&D, Commercial and other functional teams to support short and long-term growth of the company. What you will be doing:

  • Work closely with Business Development, Product Marketing, Procurement, and other 10x teams to structure, draft, and negotiate contracts, such as for development and co-marketing collaborations, early access and material transfer, and essential manufacturing, supply, and other vendor partnerships.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on, and generate solutions for, a wide range of business and contract issues such as contract interpretation, breach and dispute resolution, IP ownership and other risks.
  • Lead all transactions and advise on other business and legal risks for a primary product category that spans both in-development and commercially available products.
  • Exercise excellent legal and business judgment in negotiations with sophisticated counterparties across academia, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries (among others).
  • Work closely with the rest of the 10x legal team to support other projects as needed, including the development and implementation of company-wide policies and procedures.
  • Become an indispensable legal resource for other 10x'ers through broad familiarity with 10x's products, businesses, processes, and relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • JD degree and admitted to practice (preferably in California)
  • At least 5 years in a law firm and/or in-house directly drafting and negotiating agreements, including significant experience with transactions in the biotechnology industry
  • Solid understanding of contracting in life science companies, including R&D and commercial contracts
  • Able to serve as a strong business partner who can integrate legal advice with business acumen and sound judgment
  • Broad interest in and understanding of the needs and goals of the wide range of stakeholders in business transactions
  • Able to think creatively, work independently, find solutions and think strategically
  • Excellent writing, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to educate and support colleagues and clients
  • Self-directed and proactive, comfortable executing on multiple projects independently and in collaboration with others
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong background in life sciences, computer science, or related field (degree preferred)
  • Experience leading legal side of asset purchases, product co-development and co-marketing, or similar complex, IP-heavy transactions
