Job Summary:
The Sr. Manager, EHS&s and Sustainability is responsible for deploying the organization’s EHS&s and sustainability strategy by providing leadership, guidance, and direction to ensure successful planning, implementation, and sustainment of EHS&s and sustainability programs and projects. Develops, drives, and tracks usage and cost reduction and avoidance initiatives within scope such as energy, fuel, waste, water, and international carbon taxes. Works with site leadership teams to ensure that planning, programming, and justification, including the evaluation and development of the plant’s EHS&s plan aligns with Aldevron business goals and objectives (including energy management and environmental sustainability programs). Provides leadership and coordinates with multiple stakeholders and departments within Aldevron as well as external stakeholders, outside agencies, and vendors to meet daily management and strategic goals and targets.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the management and oversite of the Environmental Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) programs at all Aldevron, Fargo facilities.
Develops, executes and leads EHS&s and environmental sustainability strategies for operations and significant commercial sites.
Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding building, energy management, and environmental sustainability systems.
Coordinates EHS&s and energy management data collection, internally verifies data, and executes analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and facilitates environmental sustainability communication and reporting.
Leverages the Danaher Business System (DBS) through a disciplined approach to develop & implement energy management and waste minimization processes to improve environmental sustainability and optimize costs associated with energy, utilities, and waste disposal.
Advises, coaches, and supports EHS&s and EHS management teams in identifying, scoping, and implementing EHS&S strategies along with energy savings and sustainability improvements using DBS tools and kaizen and development of a strong and talented EHS&s organization.
Manages the EHS&s & energy kaizen and project funnel, KPI bowler charts, and Daily Management tools.
Builds and maintains a strong relationship with the EHS&s team by providing development opportunities and the resources to reach EHS&s and sustainability maturity.
Partners with internal stake holders to provide advice to optimize cost and service levels related to utility contracts, security, vendor management, expense management, and technical project management as it relates to EHS&s and sustainability.
Assists with the identification, prioritization, and justification of facility capital projects related to energy and waste management & facility systems upgrades and ensures that energy efficiencies are captured in capital process.
Identifies and supports winning federal, state and city incentives to drive fiscally positive EHS&s initiatives.
Builds and maintains a strong relationship with operations and site leaders by reporting goals, progress, opportunities, and challenges on a regular cadence.
Directly supports internal engineering and technology organizations by providing resources and tools to capture EHS&s and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Establishes relationships with R&D and Sales and Marketing to collaborate with key customers on sustainability goals and Initiatives. Using voice of customer, evolve the product design process to introduce sustainability concepts and practices.
Partners with Corporate Communication team to develop a company-wide communication plan regarding EHS&s and sustainability goals, initiatives, and activities.
Collaborates with Danaher environmental sustainability stakeholders and SME’s to develop and mature environmental DBS toolkit to identify current practices, efficiency opportunities, and action plan templates.
Collaborates with other Danaher OpCo energy and environmental sustainability stakeholders and SMEs to benchmark what “good” looks like, learns, and communicate best practices, and encourages development of standard work to ensure effective daily management of EHS&s KPI bowlers.
Actively participates in and contributes to energy & sustainability strategic conference calls, local energy management council meetings, industry sustainability chapters, and Danaher EHS&s steering committee discussions.
Work with customer service to coordinate message and communication to customers and other interested parties regarding Aldevron EHS&s and environmental sustainability projects and activities.
Supports integration of engineering, facility management, EHS, and strategic sourcing through special projects as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental management, EHS&s management, or related science.
- 7-10 years' experience managing EHS&s programs, energy and water reduction, recycling, reuse, and waste management projects, operational / facility management / energy management role for multiple, diverse, manufacturing locations.
- Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Familiar with Material Management that includes Chemical Inventory Systems and Security systems and programs.
- Experience managing and leading a team
- Strong knowledge in the field of EH&S, OSHA requirements, and have experience in managing campus security. Security includes all aspects of physical security, access control, intellectual property, information security, document security, crisis management and business continuity (CMBC), employee/site security spanning all shifts across all facilities in Fargo.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business, engineering, or environmental management.
- Experience in industrial, micro-electronics, life sciences, medical device, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
- 5+ years' experience driving projects and managing data using lean and six sigma tools such as problem solving, value stream mapping, variation reduction techniques, and kaizen.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, water, electricity, machine control, EMS/BMS, preventive maintenance, energy & sustainability, and building management applications and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as individual contributor, and in teams in fast paced, stretch goal environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communications, presentation and negotiation skills
- Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
